Chechen Blogger Who Criticized Ramzan Kadyrov Missing
A Chechen blogger, Tumso Abdurakhmanov, who has been critical of President Ramzan Kadyrov, has gone missing in Sweden. Human rights defenders report that they have been unable to reach the blogger for several days.
The Chechen human rights organization Vayfond has stated that they have no information regarding Abdurakhmanov's death. They also reported that a representative of the organization, Mohmad Abdurakhmanov, who is Tumso's brother, is "also unexpectedly and without explanation, no longer reachable." Earlier, there were rumors about Abdurakhmanov's death circulating on Telegram channels. However, this information has not been confirmed by the Chechen authorities.
Tumso Abdurakhmanov is known for his separatist views and support for an independent Ichkeria. In his YouTube videos, he speaks about human rights violations in Chechnya and abuses by officials, as well as conducting interviews with opposition activists. In 2015, he held the position of deputy general director of the Chechen enterprise "Электросвязь" and was forced to leave the country due to a conflict with the cousin of the Chechen leader, Islam.
In February 2020, there was an assassination attempt on Abdurakhmanov.
