Cashless Law Creates Difficulties for Tourists, Discussion of Bill Postponed
Member of the "Civil Contract" faction and Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Committee on Economic Affairs Babken Tunyan has stated that since July 1, 2022, tourists visiting and departing from our country sometimes face difficulties regarding the mandatory requirement to make cashless payments for purchases exceeding 300,000 drams in duty-free shops.
The MP is proposing an amendment to the "Cashless Transactions" law, suggesting that the law's provisions should not apply to the trade of goods carried out under the "Duty-Free Trade" procedure, thereby allowing tourists visiting the Republic of Armenia to make cash payments without restrictions.
It was also noted that the bill has a significant improvement impact. According to Babken Tunyan, the draft law has been discussed with the Government's partners, but some issues need clarification. As a result, it has been proposed to postpone the discussion of the bill for a period of up to two months.
The legislative initiative was presented at the regular meeting of the Permanent Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs on November 28. This information was obtained from the website of the National Assembly.
