Water Tariff to Increase by 8.42 Drams

Water Tariff to Increase by 8.42 Drams

Starting January 1, the water tariff in the Republic of Armenia will increase by 8.42 drams, rising from 200 drams to 208.42 drams. The Public Services Regulatory Commission unanimously approved the proposal to raise the water tariff at a meeting held today, November 29.

It is noteworthy that the company 'Veolia Water' had submitted a request in August to increase the water tariff from 200 drams to 209 drams for all consumers; however, after monitoring and calculations, the PSRC decided that the tariff for disadvantaged consumers would remain unchanged at 180 drams, while a tariff of 208.42 drams would be set for other consumers.

Once the committee's decision takes legal effect, the government will subsidize the difference in the established tariffs through an appropriate decision. This means there will be no change in the tariff for consumers. The subsidy is for one year.

It should be reminded that back in 2018, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan promised that the price of drinking water would not increase in Armenia until 2024.
