Switzerland Government to Provide Funds to Armenia

On November 23, the Swiss government approved a grant of 960,000 Swiss francs to Armenia to support border communities in mitigating the effects of recent military conflicts. This is stated in a report from the World Food Programme (WFP).

Specifically, within the framework of the project "Resilience and Economic Recovery of Armenia's Border Communities - REBCA," Switzerland is providing urgent humanitarian and long-term economic support to the Gegharkunik, Vayots Dzor, and Syunik regions, in collaboration with the WFP and through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

The 12-month REBCA humanitarian project will protect and restore the shelters of people living in border areas of Armenia, providing economic resources to improve resilience against crisis situations. The project targets 15 border communities affected by the conflict in large consolidated municipalities such as Vardenis (Gegharkunik), Sisian (Syunik), and Jermuk (Vayots Dzor), directly responding to the needs of more than 1,000 households.

The REBCA program, funded by Switzerland, is co-developed and implemented by the WFP, with the involvement of World Vision Armenia (WVA), the Children’s Development Fund (CDF), and the Strategic Development Agency (SDA). The program will also receive support from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia, and local authorities from the selected target regions.
