Next in Line is the Anti-Corruption Court: "Zhoghovurd"

"Zhoghovurd" newspaper reports that according to its sources, there have been discussions within the judiciary regarding the process of suspending the operations of the court that issues detention orders, and the next in line should be the anti-corruption court. This court is also an extraordinary court, set up with a sole purpose: to issue guilty verdicts.

Furthermore, the newspaper cites that international European organizations have conveyed to the political authorities that the establishment of this court is not serving its intended purpose, hence there is a push within the judicial system to expedite the suspension process of the court that issues detention orders.

It is worth noting that the newspaper previously reported that the judiciary and law enforcement agencies have discussed the operations of the pre-trial court and have come to the conclusion that the recently formed court should be closed.

This may suggest a return to the previous model, where courts had on-duty judges, and the on-duty judge examined the detention requests submitted during the day.

The reason for this discussion with the third authority of the Republic of Armenia is the disgraceful revelations made by the law enforcement regarding the judges at the Ajapnyak Court, who issue detention orders. It was discovered what mechanisms were at play and how it was determined which judge would examine each individual's detention.

It is noted that 1.5 years ago, individuals who had no qualms about ensuring anyone's detention were selected to work for the notorious detention-order judges at the Ajapnyak-1 Court. These judges successfully fulfilled their tasks, and cases of significant political impact were mostly assigned to those who were more willing.

The establishment of this court was vigorously championed by the acting chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan, who departed from the Council in disgrace.
