Hayk Alumyans on the Destruction of NSS Archive Materials
Lawyer Hayk Alumyan, speaking on 168 TV about the possibility of destroying archive materials of the National Security Service (NSS) discussed in the National Assembly the previous day, stated: “From a legal perspective, this is inexplicable to me. The real reasons are not in the legal field, but political. Perhaps some people do not want these archives to become accessible to the public later. In terms of uncovering the truth for future generations, this directly contradicts the public interest. Some people probably want to revise history.”
Commenting on the criminal case initiated regarding violence against the parents of servicemen killed by red berets in Yerablur on September 21, the lawyer noted: “In the new Criminal Code, we have a provision that the statute of limitations does not apply to a number of articles, specifically article 450. The characterization of the crime is causing severe physical or mental suffering. If the investigation reveals that the parents of the deceased children have suffered mental anguish, then the police should know that the statute of limitations does not apply to their actions. They may be 80 years old, but circumstances might change because this 'climate' will not always be here, and they may be subjected to criminal liability, with up to 12 years of imprisonment anticipated.”
