Aliyev Complains About Iran
The President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, made a series of statements today. He also discussed the absence of Azerbaijani education in Iran and expressed discontent that there are schools in Iran where instruction is conducted in Armenian.
“In Azerbaijan, there are 340 schools where instruction is in Russian. The country also has 10 schools teaching in Georgian. In Georgia, there are 116 schools where education is provided in Azerbaijani. In Iran, there are schools where instruction is conducted in Armenian, but there are no schools where classes are held in Azerbaijani. How can this be? If someone says that this is interference in internal affairs, we absolutely reject such statements. We are raising the issue of Azerbaijani language education in Iranian schools because otherwise, the Azerbaijanis in Iran, who speak their native language, lose the literary component of the language; Azerbaijani remains only at the household level,” said Aliyev.
