French Senate Begins Discussion on Resolution Proposing Sanctions Against Azerbaijan
The French Senate has started discussions on a resolution. Senators are wearing badges depicting the Armenian tricolor in support of Armenia and Artsakh.
It is noteworthy that the authors of the resolution urge the government to act decisively so that the UN Security Council refers the matter to the International Criminal Court to investigate the aggression of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, including war crimes and crimes against the civilian population.
Six senators have called on the French government to consider all diplomatic and economic consequences of the new attacks following the 44-day war and, together with European partners, to consider the most stringent measures, including the seizure of the assets of Azerbaijan’s leaders and an embargo on gas and oil imports.
Sanctions are proposed in light of Azerbaijan's military aggression against the Republic of Armenia, which violates its sovereignty.
Senators suggest the government consider strengthening Armenia's defense capabilities, as well as deploying security forces here under the auspices of international organizations, and establishing a humanitarian office in the Republic of Artsakh.
The document also reiterates the issue of recognizing the Republic of Artsakh and including it in the negotiations aimed at achieving long-term peace.
Additionally, it is noteworthy that today, November 15, displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh have submitted a petition to the French embassy in support of the French Senate's resolution to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan, which will be discussed today.
