Ronaldo Claims He Was Forced to Leave Manchester United
Forward Cristiano Ronaldo has criticized Manchester United's head coach Erik ten Hag and stated that they attempted to force him out of the club. According to the player, there has been no evolution at the club since the coach's change, reports Kommersant.
“I do not respect him (Erik ten Hag) because he does not respect me... Not only the coach, but also two or three other guys in the club. I felt betrayed,” the player said in an interview with journalist Piers Morgan (quoted by AFP).
When asked whether they were trying to force him to leave the club, Ronaldo responded: “Yes, I felt betrayed, and I felt that some people did not want me to be here not only this year but also last year.”
Last season, Ronaldo was the top scorer for the English club, but the new coach did not include him in the starting lineup. During the match against Tottenham, he staged a walkout in the 89th minute, rising from the bench and leaving for the stands. According to media reports, he left the stadium after that.
The 37-year-old Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, a five-time Champions League winner, a European champion, and a Nations League winner. He joined Manchester United from Juventus in 2021.
