Video: Lavrov Arrives in Cambodia as Russian and US Aircraft Parked in Opposite Directions
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has arrived in the capital of Cambodia to participate in the East Asia Summit. Upon landing, he proceeded down Phnom Penh's main street, which bears the name of the Russian Federation, as reported by RIA Novosti's correspondent.
Not long ago, the motorcade of US President Joe Biden, who is also attending the summit, passed along the same highway. The boulevard named after the Russian Federation honors the assistance provided by the USSR to Cambodia in the 20th century. This street houses various government buildings and universities.
At the airport, Lavrov was welcomed by Cambodian military personnel in full uniform and actors dressed in peacock costumes. Flags of the participating countries have been installed around the airport and throughout the city, with the flags of Russia and the United States occasionally positioned side by side, yet at other times separated.
Interestingly, the aircraft of both the Russian Federation and the United States delegations were parked at opposite ends of the airport.
During these days, not only is the East Asia Summit taking place in the Cambodian capital but also other regional summits. Within the framework of the summit, Lavrov will hold several bilateral meetings.
The East Asia Summit serves as a platform for dialogue among leaders of Asia-Pacific region (APR) countries, focusing on issues related to political arrangements, development, and practical cooperation between states. The format was established in 2005, and Russia officially joined in October 2010 at the 5th East Asia Summit held in Hanoi.
