The First Floating Solar Power Plant in Armenia to be Built on Lake Yerevan
The first floating solar power plant in Armenia will be constructed on Lake Yerevan. This was announced in a draft decision published on the government’s website, granting customs privileges for importing the necessary equipment for the plant.
According to the draft decision, the importation of technological equipment, components, and materials will be conducted until February 28, 2023.
For the implementation of the project, 1,350 floating solar plant platforms (made of plastic) along with water-resistant, non-corrosive components and other necessary units worth 55,628,026 AMD will be imported from France.
A trial floating solar photovoltaic plant with an installed capacity of 151 kW is planned to be built on Lake Yerevan. It will be the only one not only in Armenia but also in the region.
The plant will be operated by the Armenian Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund and will be owned by the fund. The fund will receive a license for electricity production with a guarantee to purchase electricity.
The "Floating Solar Plants Development Program in Armenia" has been developed and is being implemented in cooperation with the Armenian Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund and the French NEPSEN organization. To this end, studies have been conducted on Armenia's water resources and the technical and economic feasibility of building and operating floating solar plants on them.
The program is fully funded by the FASEP (Financial Assistance for Economic Projects) program of the Ministry of Finance and Economy of the French Republic.
