Iran Continues to Increase Stockpile of Highly Enriched Uranium
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced on Thursday that Iran has increased its stockpile of highly enriched uranium while also criticizing Tehran for not granting inspectors from the agency access to Iranian nuclear facilities, reported the Associated Press (AP).
In a quarterly report, the IAEA stated that as of October 22, Iran possesses 62.3 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60%, which is an increase of 6.7 kilograms compared to the IAEA's September report.
The agency noted that experts on nuclear non-proliferation believe Iran currently has enough 60% enriched uranium to potentially produce at least one nuclear bomb.
Meanwhile, the IAEA mentioned that they cannot determine the exact quantity of Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile due to restrictions imposed by Tehran on agency inspectors last year, as well as the shutdown of cameras used to monitor Iranian nuclear facilities.
