14 Cases of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in a Week: Armen Muradyan Calls for Vigilance

Yerevan State Medical University Rector Armen Muradyan writes: 'In one week, there have been 14 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning at the Muratsan University Hospital. Specialists are calling for vigilance.'

On the night of November 9, three children from the same family (aged 3, 5, and 7) were hospitalized with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at the Toxicology and Pediatric Resuscitation Clinic of the Muratsan Hospital Complex. The children's mother also suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning and received first aid at the same clinic. University specialists assessed the level of poisoning in the children and prescribed barotherapy with hyperbaric oxygenation. Following treatment, the children showed positive dynamics, and doctors now rate their health condition as satisfactory. They are expected to be discharged from the medical facility today.

It is worth noting that this is the second case of carbon monoxide poisoning at the Muratsan Hospital Complex within the same week. Days earlier, on November 5, 10 individuals—7 children and 3 adults—were also hospitalized. After receiving appropriate medical assistance, they were discharged in satisfactory condition.

Given the number of cases reported in the past week, university specialists once again urge everyone to pay close attention to gas pipes, gas-operated devices, their usage, and to check whether they fully ensure proper emission. Problems often relate to these issues, as well as the installation of detection devices. It is necessary to frequently ventilate the home, especially the kitchen where the gas stove is constantly lit, and to remain vigilant.'
