Two Years Later, the Assault Case Against Ararat Mirzoyan Stalls in Place

According to the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd', today marks two years since the incident involving the former Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia and current Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan being assaulted, yet it remains unclear who was responsible for the attack.

The newspaper reported that on the morning of November 9, 2020, a large number of individuals assaulted then-Parliament leader Ararat Mirzoyan in front of the National Assembly, after which he was hospitalized and underwent surgery. Despite the fact that two years have passed since this incident, those previously detained in relation to the case continue to remain in custody. Their lawyers are petitioning the preliminary investigation authority for their acquittal and to terminate the criminal proceedings, but no action has been taken by the National Security Service.

Additionally, it has been noted that in the two years since the incident, the investigative body has not managed to identify or disclose the individuals who assaulted Mirzoyan, and the case has yet to be forwarded to court.

It is important to recall that on the night of November 9-10, 2020, after the announcement regarding the agreement reached between the Republic of Armenia, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to cease hostilities was published in various media outlets, mass disturbances occurred in different regions of Armenia, particularly in government buildings and state facilities in the capital, Yerevan.
