Hope for Collaboration Between Defense Army and Peacekeepers in Russia's Proposal, Ohanyan
The authorities of Armenia can no longer conduct meetings and negotiations regarding the issue of Artsakh at the level they once did. This was stated by the head of the 'Armenia' parliamentary faction and former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan during a briefing with reporters.
He noted that despite the ongoing negotiations no longer being at the previous level, it is crucial to choose the best options available for the fate and self-determination of the people of Artsakh.
“We see chances to fight for the self-determination of Artsakh in the trilateral format of Armenia, Russia, and Azerbaijan,” Ohanyan stated.
The former minister reminded that before the deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh, the Defense Army and the Republic of Armenia were the guarantors of security in Artsakh for many years, and he emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Defense Army and the Russian peacekeepers.
“We must acknowledge that the Artsakh Defense Army was established in response to Azerbaijan's aggression, based on the exercise of the right to self-defense,” Ohanyan said.
It is noteworthy that Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met in Sochi on October 31, discussing the implementation of the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26. As a result of the meeting, a joint statement was adopted, reaffirming their commitment to strictly adhere to all mentioned agreements, based on the interests of comprehensive resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, and ensuring peace, stability, security, and sustainable economic development in the South Caucasus.
