In the 37th minute, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric successfully converted a penalty kick, and in the 41st minute, Brazilian defender Éder Militão also scored. Before half-time, Rayo Vallecano managed to equalize, and in the second half, they scored the winning goal.
This marked Real's first loss in the current championship, retreating to second place with 32 points. Barcelona rose to first place with 34 points, while Rayo Vallecano stands 8th with 21 points.
