NATO Does Not Want a Ceasefire in Ukraine on Russia's Terms, Stoltenberg
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has stated that the alliance does not wish to see a ceasefire in Ukraine based on Russia's conditions. This announcement was made during a climate conference in Sharm el-Sheikh, as reported by РИА Новости.
According to him, such a scenario would be a disaster for Ukraine and a threat to NATO, as it would demonstrate that the use of force can achieve political objectives related to gaining control over neighboring countries.
Stoltenberg added that Russia has shown ambitions not only regarding Ukraine but also in relations with NATO.
Earlier, in response to a question about the potential deployment of nuclear capabilities in Sweden and Finland upon their accession to NATO, Stoltenberg noted that the alliance does not plan to change its nuclear posture.
Finland's Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto stated at a press conference that the country does not intend to host NATO's nuclear weapons on its territory. He clarified that the states do not plan to increase the number of nuclear warheads in Europe.
NATO is focusing on its permanent structures regarding these matters. Haavisto’s position was supported by Finland’s Defense Minister Antti Kaikkonen, who noted that no one would impose nuclear weapons on Finland or Sweden.
