Former Rector of Yerevan State Medical University Charged
The former rector of the Yerevan State Medical University, M. N., has been charged with embezzlement of a particularly large amount of property belonging to the foundation. This information was reported by the Office of the General Prosecutor of Armenia.
It is noted that M. N. refers to Mikael Narimanyan.
According to the prosecution, M. N., both personally and with the assistance of M. S., the president of the "Heraci" trade union established by the same foundation, deliberately misappropriated property that was entrusted to him. This misappropriation involved particularly large amounts of property worth 39 million 660 thousand drams, using his official position to facilitate the act.
"The former rector made an agreement with M. S. to transfer the foundation’s funds to the 'Heraci' organization, to acquire vacation homes from V. S., the director of the 'Navasar' LLC's ‘Zovasar’ hotel complex associated with the chairman of the foundation's board of trustees, at prices above market value and to return the remaining amounts to V. S.," the report states.
M. N. is accused of committing embezzlement as defined by Article 179, Part 3, Point 1 of the Criminal Code in effect at the time of the offense. Criminal proceedings have also been initiated against M. S. for assisting in the commission of embezzlement under Article 38-179, Part 3, Point 1 of the Criminal Code in effect at the time.
Necessary measures are being taken to identify all individuals involved in the corrupt scheme and to initiate public criminal proceedings against them.
