China Displays Hypersonic Missile as a Warning to Washington

China has showcased a hypersonic anti-ship missile for the first time. According to the South China Morning Post (SCMP), the missile resembles Russia's Kinzhal, and its display serves as a warning directed at official Washington not to interfere in China’s reunification plans with Taiwan.

The missile, presented at the Airshow China aviation exhibition, is capable of carrying a nuclear payload, with a bomb range exceeding two thousand kilometers.

“The purpose of showcasing the YJ-21 at the airshow is to warn the United States not to intervene in Beijing’s plans to reclaim Taiwan… none of the U.S. naval air defense systems can intercept hypersonic missiles,” stated Andrei Chang, editor-in-chief of the Canadian Kanwa Asian Defense magazine.

According to experts cited by SCMP, the Chinese YJ-21 missiles are more powerful than their Russian counterparts and could potentially deter U.S. vessels from the region in the event of a conflict.
