EU Observers Confident of Azerbaijani Aggression Towards Armenian Borders, Says Gegharkunik Governor

EU observers in the Gegharkunik region have already noted and are confident that there has been aggression by Azerbaijan towards the borders of Armenia and that there are occupied territories. This was stated by Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargyzian during a briefing with reporters in the National Assembly, according to Armenpress.

“Violations have been recorded, but it has become evident in recent days that they have decreased. Nonetheless, the observers are conducting their patrol activities, which has also had an effect; this is also a reason why the adversary has reduced the gunfire,” said the governor.

According to Sargyzian, EU observers have one headquarters in Gegharkunik but carry out activities across the borders of 11 settlements. However, he did not disclose where exactly the patrol service is being carried out.

“They monitor every day, making new discoveries daily. The governor’s office has provided all its available information to our colleagues, and they have assured that it will be presented as a report. Among the observers, there are already individuals who have documented and are confident that there has been Azerbaijani aggression towards the borders of the Republic of Armenia,” he stated.

He added that there are eight observers carrying out missions in Gegharkunik. “Regarding the maps and the current location of Azerbaijani troops, they are confident that there are occupied areas in Armenian territory, and they are sure that this has resulted from Azerbaijani aggression,” the governor noted.
