VIDEO: Passenger Plane Crashes into Lake in Tanzania
Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC) has reported that a passenger plane has crashed into Lake Victoria while attempting to land at Bukoba Airport.
So far, 15 people have been rescued, but it is unclear how many passengers were on the Precision Air flight and whether there are any fatalities.
The aircraft took off from the capital, Dar es Salaam, and "crashed into Lake Victoria this morning due to storms and heavy rainfall," TBC reported.
Videos and images circulating on social media show the plane nearly fully submerged, with only its green-brown tail visible.
Rescue boats have arrived at the scene, and rescuers continue to save other passengers trapped in the aircraft.
Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged the public to remain calm as the rescue operation continues. Bukoba Airport is situated on the shores of Africa's largest Lake Victoria.
