Have You Considered Moving the Capital to Another Location? - Hovik Agazaryan

What do we have today in Yerevan? We have the Fourth Village, we have streets without sidewalks, and tens of thousands of illegal, poorly designed buildings. In the coming years, we will also have Yerevan surrounded by high-rise buildings. This was stated by Hovik Agazaryan, a member of the ruling faction, during the discussion of the state budget in the National Assembly.

“Many people think that the area just one meter beyond any administrative border of Yerevan is a region. Yes, administratively it is a region, but in other respects, it is not. Has there been any thought in your ministries about moving the capital to another location? Move it somewhere else and make a beautiful city by modern standards,” Agazaryan asked, directing the question at Suren Tovmasyan, the head of the Cadastre Committee.

In response to the question, Tovmasyan noted that he was not aware of any discussions on such a matter, but in relation to the issues raised by the MP, around 37,000 illegal constructions currently operating in the Republic have already been registered and work is underway to address these issues.
