Video: Pashinyan's Remarks During Meeting with Putin
It is crucial for Armenia to have Russia's clear stance on the necessity of pulling back Azerbaijani troops that have invaded Armenia's sovereign territory. This statement was made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi.
In the context of border delimitation and demarcation, he pointed out that at the beginning of this process, Yerevan emphasized several times that mechanisms must first be created to enhance stability and security at the border.
“Russia's position was that the formation of a delimitation commission itself would become a border security mechanism. We did not share that view, but eventually, we decided to rely on the position of our strategic ally, Russia. However, contrary to that, on September 13, Azerbaijan launched a new large-scale aggression against Armenia and occupied new territories,” added the Prime Minister.
For this reason, according to Pashinyan, it is now important for Armenia to obtain Russia’s clear stance that Azerbaijani forces should withdraw to positions held as of May 11, 2021.
Pashinyan also spoke about the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and the unblocking of communications.
Earlier, it was reported that the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan would hold a trilateral meeting today in Sochi. Before the trilateral meeting, a bilateral meeting between Putin and Pashinyan is taking place in Sochi. Accompanying Pashinyan on this working visit to the Russian Federation are Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan, and other officials.
