VIDEO: 80% of Displaced Residents from Gegharkunik Have Returned to Their Homes, Says Governor
As a result of the September aggression, 80% of the displaced residents from Gegharkunik have already returned to their homes. This announcement was made by the governor of Gegharkunik, Karen Saroyan, during a press conference at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex ahead of the 6th congress of the Civil Contract party.
“At this moment, we are restoring damaged homes in Sotk. The houses that have been assessed for damage have already been restored. However, the restoration of houses that have been completely destroyed has not yet begun, but the rental issue for those families has been resolved,” said the governor.
The governor added that 8 homes in the region have been completely damaged, and residents who have not returned to their homes assured that they would return after some time.
He also noted that in recent days, observers from the OSCE have visited the region, where they were shown the damage recorded as a result of enemy shelling. Saroyan stated that the observers are almost fully aware of the current situation.
It should be reminded that from September 13, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces have been intensively firing from artillery systems and large-caliber firearms in the directions of Goris, Sotk, and Jermuk. The adversary also used UAVs. A ceasefire regime was established along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border starting from 20:00 on September 14, which is periodically violated by the Azerbaijani side.
