Video: Massive Floods Continue on Australia's East Coast for Eight Months

The Australian government will allocate 800 million Australian dollars (516 million USD) to renovate, upgrade, and purchase homes affected by massive floods on the country's east coast, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced.

The Prime Minister also clarified that only homeowners in "high flood risk" areas will be able to sell their properties to the state, while others will be offered subsidies for property reconstruction or renovation. The payment will not exceed $100,000 (approximately $647,000).

"We need to pay more attention to protection, as we know that natural disasters will become more frequent and more severe due to climate change," Albanese stated.

It is noted that the widespread floods, which began in February 2022 on Australia's east coast, have persisted for eight months. In northern and central New South Wales, heavy rainfall has occurred for 180 days this year, according to the country's national weather bureau.
