Israel and Lebanon Sign Maritime Border Demarcation Agreement
Israel and Lebanon, which are officially in a state of war, have resolved a long-standing dispute. This is reported by Euronews.
The representatives of both sides signed an agreement on maritime border demarcation. The ceremonies were conducted separately. In the Jewish state, the document was signed by Prime Minister Yair Lapid in the presence of the negotiating team.
Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz, who was in Turkey at the time, welcomed the deal. "The maritime border agreement reflects the opposing sides' ability to cooperate for the sake of stability and economic prosperity. This agreement is a valuable contribution to Israel's security, as well as to the stability and security of the region," he said.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun signed an official letter directed to the UN Security Council in Beirut, regarding the ratification of the agreement with Israel. Negotiations lasted for two years, with the United States acting as a mediator.
