What Mirzoyan and Abdollahian Discussed

Armenia and Iran are in agreement that the existing problems between the countries in the region should be resolved through negotiations and constructive dialogue, excluding the use of force or the threat of its application. Armenia highly appreciates the principled and clear position of friendly Iran regarding Armenia's territorial integrity.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, at a joint press conference with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian at the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Meetings in the capitals of our countries are of great significance. Today, we have noted with satisfaction that the relations between the two countries, based not only on the millennia-old brotherhood and friendship of our peoples but also on a deep understanding of our common state interests, are consistently deepening in various sectors,” said Mirzoyan.

The key topic of the ministers' discussion was the situation related to regional security and stability. Mirzoyan presented to his counterpart the details regarding the ongoing work on the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace treaty. The minister also addressed the details and consequences of the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Armenian sovereignty and territorial integrity on September 13-14.

“We reaffirmed the imperative of the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from the sovereign territory of Armenia, the release and repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war unlawfully held in Azerbaijan, the clarification of the fates of victims of enforced disappearances, and the maintenance of the ceasefire regime. We agree that the existing problems between the countries in the region should be resolved through negotiations and constructive dialogue, excluding the use of force or the threat of force. We highly appreciate the principled and clear position of friendly Iran regarding Armenia's territorial integrity, as well as the Iranian side's efforts aimed at establishing stability and peace in the region,” said Mirzoyan.

The foreign ministers of the two countries discussed issues related to cooperation both on bilateral and multilateral platforms and expressed readiness to jointly enrich the Armenian-Iranian agenda. The ministers exchanged views on prospects for revitalizing cooperation in the fields of trade, energy, transportation, and high technologies, and addressed the topic of continuing and completing major joint economic projects.

“We attach special importance to strengthening ties with Iran in the field of road infrastructure. In this regard, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of implementing the Persia-Gulf-Black Sea international transport corridor project, which could also involve other stakeholders and interested parties, countries,” said the Armenian Foreign Minister.

The visit of the Iranian Foreign Minister will also be marked by an important event: the ceremonial opening of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kapan. Mirzoyan regarded this as a significant and symbolic step demonstrating the willingness to elevate the cooperation between the two countries and friendly peoples to a qualitatively new level.
