VIDEO. The Turn Has Come to "Girl with a Pearl Earring": Eco-Activists' Latest Action
The Hague police have arrested three vandals who call themselves eco-activists, attempting to damage Johannes Vermeer’s painting "Girl with a Pearl Earring." One of them glued his head to the canvas, while another poured preserved soup over it.
Later, representatives of the Mauritshuis Royal Gallery, where the 17th-century painting is housed, announced that the artwork had not been damaged, as it was protected by glass. "Our restorers have assessed the condition of the painting, and fortunately, the artwork behind the glass has not been affected," gallery staff reported.
It is reported that the police took the three participants of the vandalism action into custody for "publicly damaging property."
