Ksenia Sobchak Becomes a Suspect in Extortion Case
Television host Ksenia Sobchak has become a suspect in an extortion case involving the state corporation "Rostech," as reported by TASS based on information from law enforcement agencies.
Previously, it was reported that law enforcement had conducted a search at Sobchak's suburban mansion near Moscow.
According to sources, the actions of the authorities are part of a criminal case related to extortion against Sobchak's commercial director, Kirill Sukhanov. The television star herself holds no status in the case.
Sukhanov was arrested yesterday, and Sobchak has condemned his arrest as yet another instance of pressure on journalism in the country. "They have no reason to cling to me, and that irritates them. They constantly arrest my journalists, and now they have also gone after Kirill and are fabricating a case against him," the television star responded.
Ksenia Sobchak heads the media holding "Ostorozhno, Media," which includes a network of Telegram news channels, a podcast studio, and YouTube channels. She is the daughter of Anatoly Sobchak, who is considered a political godfather to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and has recently been taking an opposition stance.
