Government Cancels 24 Million Dram Military Exemption Project
The Armenian government has canceled a project that would have allowed military exemption for 24 million drams, or more precisely, completing just 4 months of training, reports "Hraparak".
Two months ago, the Ministry of Defense had put forward a legislative initiative on a unified platform for public discussion, proposing amendments to the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel." The proposed plan allowed for military service completion in just 4 months upon payment of 24 million drams.
The amendments were to be made to Article 26 of the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Personnel," which was to be supplemented with a new clause stating: "Conscripts may also be released early from mandatory military service after completing the 4th month of service and finishing the training phase, upon payment of 24 million drams to the state budget of the Republic of Armenia." Currently, this statement has been removed from the legislative amendments plan, indicating that the government has abandoned this proposal.
It is worth noting that the project had caused significant public discontent.
