VIDEO: Mamigonian and Aram Khachaturyan Streets to Connect through New Road Segment
The construction of the new road segment connecting Mamigonian Street to Aram Khachaturyan Street is in its final phase. It will bypass and significantly relieve Komitas Avenue. This information was reported by the press department of the Yerevan Municipality.
“The work began in April-May. The length of the road segment is 265 meters, and the width of the traffic lane is 9 meters. There will also be a technical sidewalk half a meter wide and a pedestrian sidewalk one meter wide,” said Shogik Yeranyan, head of the Yerevan Investment Program Implementation Office.
Months ago, the site of the new road mostly consisted of garages, as well as residential buildings. By the government’s decision, the area was recognized as being of public interest, and implementation works were carried out on site.
The two streets will connect through a new bridge. The most important and responsible part of the construction is the bridge's building. “The bridge will have a monolithic reinforced concrete structure. It will be 11 meters wide, with a 9-meter traffic lane. The bridge being constructed can serve for 100 years,” noted Gagik Martirosyan, head of the construction organization and supervision department of the Yerevan Investment Program Implementation Office.
The external lighting network of the road has been conducted underground, and the lights will be energy-saving LED types. Taking into account the peculiarities of the terrain, retaining walls are being constructed along the entirety of the road segment, and a drainage system will be implemented from the bridge area to the intersection.
“The road construction works have been carried out entirely using the budget of the Yerevan community. The construction is expected to be completed by mid-November,” emphasized Shogik Yeranyan. The construction of new roads and the alleviation of transport flows from the central parts of the city, reduction of traffic congestion and the comfortable movement of residents are among the priorities of the city authorities. The community is currently discussing several new road projects.
