Video: Iran's Consulate Opened in Kapan
The Iranian Consulate was ceremonially opened today in Kapan, the administrative center of Armenia's Syunik province.
Participating in the ceremony were the Foreign Ministers of the two countries, Ararat Mirzoyan and Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, as well as Iran's newly appointed Consul General Abedin Varamineh.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Ararat Mirzoyan stated, “I am confident that the consulate will greatly contribute to the active enhancement of human connections between the Armenian and Iranian peoples, and will serve as a unique indicator of the two neighboring and friendly nations, a distinctive point for stability and peace in the region.”
The Foreign Minister assured the newly appointed consul of the support from Armenia's Foreign Ministry and the government.
It is noteworthy that the Iranian government decided to open a consulate in the provincial center of Syunik at the end of 2021, to which the Armenian government agreed. Abedin Varamineh was appointed as the Consul General in Kapan in August 2022 and began his duties at the end of September.
Diplomatic relations between Armenia and Iran were established in 1992. In the same year, an Iranian embassy was opened in Yerevan, the second after the Russian embassy, and in December, an Armenian embassy was opened in Tehran.
