Man Regularly Abused His Ex-Wife and Her Parents
A.G. repeatedly subjected his former wife, J.M., and her parents, H.M. and M.A., to abuse from February 25, 2021, until August 13, 2022. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, the apparent factual data confirming this was obtained during the pre-trial investigation of a criminal case being examined by the Special Investigative Service.
The violence was accompanied by causing minor injuries that did not amount to serious harm, inflicting physical pain upon the aforementioned individuals. A.G. consistently violated the requirements of the emergency intervention decisions made against him as per Article 7 of the Law on the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Protection of Persons Subjected to Domestic Violence, and Restoration of Family Harmony. He also exercised non-life-threatening violence against police officers, who are representatives of the authority, in connection with their official duties.
Taking into consideration the nature of the illegal actions exhibited by this individual over a prolonged period and the necessity to prevent them, the supervising prosecutor requested the materials of the criminal proceedings. On October 19, 2022, the prosecutor made a decision to initiate a new public criminal prosecution against A.G. on 12 counts, which has been sent to the prosecuting authority for indictment.
On the same day, the accused A.G. was arrested, and a petition was submitted to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan for two months of pre-trial detention as a precautionary measure. The court granted the petition, and A.G. has been placed in detention for two months.
Notice: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court decision that has entered into legal force, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code.
