Turkish Army Used Chemical Weapons: Authorities Respond to Doctor's Statement
The president of the Turkish Medical Association, Professor Şebnem Korur Fincancı, has claimed that the Turkish army used chemical weapons during clashes with "terrorists," according to ermenihaber. Fincancı noted that her conclusion was drawn after examining the bodies of slain "terrorists" (Kurdish militants - ed.).
“I have previously examined them as well. One of the gases that directly affects the nervous system was used. There are various types of chemical weapons, and despite their prohibition, we still see their use during clashes,” the Turkish professor stated, adding that an investigation should be conducted regarding Turkey.
This statement has provoked a strong response from Turkish authorities. Ibrahim Kalın, chief advisor and spokesperson for the President, labeled the statement as smear propaganda organized by terrorist organizations. Omer Celik, spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), also stated that those who slander the Turkish army aim to justify the crimes of the terrorist organization (Kurdistan Workers' Party - PKK).
