EU to Provide Urgent Assistance to Individuals Affected by Azerbaijani Aggression

The European Union has announced the provision of urgent assistance amounting to approximately 118 million drams (300,000 Euros) for individuals affected by the clashes that occurred in September, which were the deadliest events since the ceasefire in November 2020. This information was received from the EU delegation in Armenia.

During the upcoming winter, this funding will be directed towards the most vulnerable groups among the 7,600 individuals who fled due to military actions, as well as to the host communities and other vulnerable people who remain in conflict-affected areas.

Andrea Wiktorin, the EU Ambassador to Armenia, stated: “The military actions that took place last month resulted in more displacements, more losses, and devastation. The European Union is providing additional urgent financial assistance to meet the needs of the most vulnerable individuals directly affected by the fighting and to help them cope during the cold winter months.”

EU partner humanitarian organizations in Armenia will provide hygiene kits, shelter renovation packages, and cash assistance to help individuals meet their basic needs, such as food, heating costs, or rent. The provision of emergency assistance will be closely coordinated with Armenian authorities and emergency response actors.

The financial support has been made possible through the Emergency Toolbox, which is designed for rapid response to emergencies and prioritizes financial resources for vulnerable people outside the EU, coordinated by the European Commission’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre.
