Russia to Build Second Nuclear Power Plant in Turkey, Says Rosatom Head

State corporation 'Rosatom' has begun negotiations with Turkish partners regarding the construction of a second nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast. This was stated by Rosatom's head Alexey Likhachev during a commentary to reporters on the 'Russia 24' television channel on Wednesday.

'We have started negotiations with our Turkish business partners on shaping approaches concerning technological alliances, investment policies, and the formation of the Turkish energy market, taking into account the future presence of a large nuclear power plant,' Likhachev stated.

The Rosatom head recalled that the second nuclear power plant will be built in Sinop. According to him, 'this is already a well-known site on the Black Sea for all nuclear scientists in the world, which is very attractive for the location of a large and powerful plant consisting of four blocks.'

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he had discussed the possibility of constructing a second nuclear power plant on the Black Sea coast with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Rosatom is currently building the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. The Sinop plant is set to become the country's second nuclear power plant, in accordance with the strategic development plan adopted by Ankara. Additionally, Turkey intends to construct a third nuclear power plant in the future.
