Europe Can Use Russian Gas Through Turkey, Says Erdoğan
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that he and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have agreed on a gas hub, allowing Europe to utilize Russian gas through Turkish territory.
“Europe is currently thinking about how to secure energy for the coming winter. Thank God, we do not have such a problem. Moreover, during our last meeting, Mr. Putin and I agreed to create a gas hub in Turkey. As he stated, Europe can use Russian gas through Turkey,” Erdoğan said at a meeting with members of his party in parliament.
Last Wednesday, Vladimir Putin proposed the establishment of a gas hub in Turkey during an energy forum held in Moscow. According to him, this could compensate for the lost volumes from the “Nord Stream” pipeline. The president emphasized that such a decision is economically feasible while the level of security is significantly higher.
During his recent meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Putin noted that the creation of the gas hub would allow for the stabilization of prices “at a normal market level, without political nuances.”
