Hajiyev: No Discussion on Creating International Mechanism for Communication with Karabakh Armenians

There is no discussion about creating an international mechanism for communication with the Armenians of Karabakh, nor can there be. This was stated by Hikmet Hajiyev, adviser to the President of Azerbaijan.

“Both in Brussels and Washington, Azerbaijani representatives have emphasized that Baku will not discuss our country’s sovereign rights with others. The rights and security of the Armenian population of Karabakh will be addressed in accordance with the Constitution of Azerbaijan and the international obligations we have undertaken,” Hajiyev said.

At the same time, the presidential advisor insisted that as a “responsible member of the international community,” Azerbaijan “may inform its international partners about the dialogue with its citizens in due time.” However, this will only be done as a “gesture of goodwill and a demonstration of transparency.”

According to him, Baku considers the issue closed.

It should be reminded that earlier, Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, stated that “the approach to negotiations is that through a peace treaty we are regulating the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, while with regard to Nagorno-Karabakh, we continue to negotiate with our partners as well as all players to create an international mechanism for discussing rights and security issues between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan.”
