Cavusoglu Complains About Pressure on Yerevan, Says Kostanyan

Former MP Anna Kostanyan writes: "In an interview with TVNET, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expressed dissatisfaction that official Yerevan is facing pressure in the positive process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations, both from within Armenia and the Armenian diaspora. This indicates that, in any case, collective Armenians from Armenia, the diaspora, and Artsakh are beginning to show their discontent towards the imposed agreements between Turkey and Azerbaijan, which is increasingly worrying the anti-Armenian/anti-Artsakh tandem.

If in the recent past, this Turkish duo was calm and confident that there was, in fact, no real and substantial opposition in Armenia to the ongoing processes, now Cavusoglu is complaining at the level of Foreign Minister, emphasizing once again that the normalization process between Yerevan and Ankara and the negotiations for a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan cannot proceed separately from each other.

Essentially, the Turkish Foreign Minister also somewhat confirms the leaked document circulating for the past two days regarding Washington (not yet confirmed by the Republic of Armenia), which, according to the information spreading, was agreed upon on September 27 during a meeting initiated by U.S. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan between the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council Armen Grigoryan and Azerbaijani President's assistant Hikmet Hajiyev.

Since official Yerevan has not denied the existence of this document, we can assume that the statements made by Cavusoglu regarding the mutual recognition of territorial integrity and border demarcation truly exist along with other obligations.

I just don’t understand various public and political figures and, at times, those citizens interested in these matters, who consider it their unconditional duty to deny the existence of such a document. What makes it so impossible that this government would sign a capitulatory document with enemy states, or is complete capitulation of Armenia not on the table, especially when the Prime Minister repeatedly recalls the instances of unconditional surrenders after World War II by Germany and other countries, drawing parallels and at times presenting this in a somewhat positive light? Or is the possibility of giving Artsakh to Azerbaijan impossible? I want to understand what you are rejecting and what you are denying. Now, who are you siding with?"
