Why the Deputy Mayor of Gyumri Resigned

David Arushanyan has submitted a resignation letter from his position as Deputy Mayor of Gyumri. He announced this on his Facebook page.

“Dear Gyumri residents, today I have submitted my resignation letter from the position of Deputy Mayor of Gyumri. From now on, I will continue my activities in the National Assembly. During my tenure, I have come to the conclusion that in order to avoid inertial governance, it is necessary to implement new management systems, to not fear reforms (no matter how painful they may be), and to not be guided by personal ambitions; I have partially achieved these. Contrary to all memoranda, it is very important to act as a united team; otherwise, we will have fragmented governance, which in many cases hinders project implementation and creates inconveniences for citizens.

During my work, my team has played a significant role, supporting and trusting me in my initiatives. We are united around one idea and are moving forward with confidence. I thank everyone who considered themselves part of the team and stood by my side; I assure you that everything has a boomerang effect. I wish good luck to all my colleagues, Mr. Papikyan and Mr. Samsonyan, in this challenging and responsible task.

During the first session of the council, I stated the following: "I also want to emphasize the role of the opposition. Any government succeeds in its work only in the presence of constructive opposition, and I am confident that we will work together solely for the benefit of the city, and false agendas will not hinder Gyumri's development, as the only goal for both the government and the opposition will be that." I thank my colleagues for correctly interpreting these words and for our joint work.

Dear fellow citizens, I thank you for your trust and appreciation. I want to mention that I have always felt your support, and independently of you, you have always participated in my governance process by voicing my shortcomings and positively assessing what has been done, which has given me strength and confidence for the implementation of new projects. During this time, our team was able to accomplish many projects, but many also remained unfinished, for which I ask for your forgiveness. I assure you that my colleagues and I will continue all the incomplete projects and more, using the powers granted to me by law; my work in the legislature will be aimed at the development of our city and ensuring a dignified life for the honorable Gyumri citizen. After all, Gyumri is our home city,” he wrote.
