Call to Activate CSTO Mechanisms to Prevent Armed Clashes
The First Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Nuran Niyazaliev, urged the activation of CSTO mechanisms that would prevent armed conflicts among the organization's member states during a meeting of deputy foreign ministers from CSTO member countries in Yerevan. This was reported by the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry.
"Nuran Niyazaliev informed the participants of the consultations about the consequences of the military aggression of the Republic of Tajikistan against Kyrgyzstan and called on the parties to activate CSTO mechanisms as soon as possible to prevent further armed incursions and to resolve all disputes between states through peaceful means, in accordance with the Collective Security Treaty and CSTO charter," the statement said.
It was noted that Niyazaliev suggested adopting a joint declaration and making amendments to the CSTO constitutional documents.
The deputy foreign ministers of the CSTO countries also exchanged views on current security issues and emphasized the importance of joint responses to new challenges and threats.
It is worth recalling that the situation at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border escalated on September 14, with clashes occurring between border guards over several days, involving heavy weaponry.
