Ensuring Armenia's Security is a Priority for Russia, Says Kopirkin

The Prosecutor General of Armenia, Anna Vardapetyan, today presented to the Russian Ambassador to Armenia, Sergey Kopirkin, the consequences of the large-scale aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia on September 13. She emphasized the urgent need for the withdrawal of Azerbaijani armed forces from Armenia's sovereign territory, the return of Armenian prisoners of war, and the unconditional maintenance of the ceasefire.

The Prosecutor General also discussed the war crimes committed by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, including the killings of Armenian prisoners of war and the torture of Armenian servicemen, including women, stressing the necessity of holding accountable those who have committed egregious war crimes during and prior to this period.

Kopirkin stated that Russia is making every effort to resolve the raised issues, adding that ensuring Armenia's security is a priority for Russia.

Following the intensive military operations that began at midnight on September 13 along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, official data indicates that there are 206 casualties and missing persons on the Armenian side, with at least 20 prisoners of war, while there are 80 casualties on the Azerbaijani side, with both sides sustaining hundreds of injuries. A ceasefire was announced on the evening of September 14; however, it has been periodically violated, resulting in 3 fatalities and one injury on the Armenian side, while the Azerbaijani side reported 4 injuries.

As of October 2 at 22:00, the situation at the border is relatively stable.

On the morning of October 2, a video surfaced online showing Azerbaijani soldiers brutally shooting captured unarmed Armenian servicemen. According to the investigations by the Human Rights Defender's office, the premeditated murder of Armenian prisoners of war by Azerbaijani servicemen occurred on September 13 during the large-scale assault on Armenia's sovereign territory.
