Spanish Media Addresses Execution of Armenian Prisoners of War by Azerbaijani Soldiers

The Spanish newspaper El País has reported on Azerbaijan's recent aggression against Armenia, clearly emphasizing that Baku has attacked internationally recognized territories of Armenia.

According to Armenpress, the media outlet has titled a detailed article: “Armenia Condemns the Execution of Prisoners of War by Azerbaijani Soldiers.”

El País recalled that the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus has called for an investigation into a video circulating online (which shows Azerbaijani soldiers brutally executing Armenian POWs), emphasizing that if the authenticity of the video is confirmed, it constitutes a war crime, and the perpetrators must be held accountable.

The article states that Baku denies the allegations of executing prisoners of war and accuses Armenia of committing crimes, while Armenia's Ministry of Defense assures that the video is undoubtedly real. The article then quotes Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's words: “Armenia will use all international mechanisms to ensure an investigation and hold those responsible accountable. Such acts of violence must receive appropriate responses from the aggressor.”

It is also highlighted that the escalation in September is the most severe since 2020. It is mentioned that during the September escalation, Armenia requested assistance from the CSTO, but the organization did not intervene, and “Russia seems unwilling to engage in a new scenario of the conflict.” The article also emphasizes that Baku receives significant support from Turkey.

“While Russia is watching the situation from the sidelines, the US and the EU have moved forward to facilitate dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan and to sign a peace agreement,” the article states.
