VIDEO: Military Coup Takes Place in Burkina Faso
A military group in Burkina Faso, led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, has announced the ousting of the country's transitional government leader, Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, the suspension of the constitution, the dissolution of the government, and the closing of borders, according to Lefaso.net.
"The military group announced on state television the removal of Lieutenant Colonel Damiba, who is accused of straying from the ideals of the Patriotic Movement for Safeguard and Restoration (MPSR)," the report states.
The military has also announced new measures in the country.
"The new coup plotters, led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, who still claim to belong to the MPSR, announced a number of measures including the suspension of the constitution, the suspension of the transitional charter, the dissolution of the government, the dissolution of the transitional legislative assembly, and a curfew from 9 PM to 5 AM (local time)," the newspaper writes.
