Nord Stream Explosions May Have Damaged Subsea High-Voltage Cable Between Sweden and Poland
Swedish experts believe that the subsea high-voltage cable between Sweden and Poland may have been damaged due to the explosions of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, reports SVT.
The Swepol Link electric highway is laid on the seabed between the Sterıen peninsula near Karlshamn, Sweden, and Bryskowo Wielkie, Poland. Per Kvarnefalck, a representative of the Swedish energy system operator Svenska kraftnat, stated that the cable is located 500 meters from one of the alleged explosion sites. It is noted that the underwater electricity transmission line is currently disconnected, and there is no possibility of obtaining information about the damage at this time.
“We do not know how strong the explosion was. To ensure that everything is in order, we will conduct measurements at the beginning of next week,” said Kvarnefalck, adding that the long-term disconnection of the line will affect the electricity supply situation in Europe.
Earlier, the United States had refrained from discussing the causes of the Nord Stream pipeline incident until an official investigation was conducted. In this regard, a Pentagon spokesperson commented on reports about U.S. Air Force helicopters seen at the gas leak site.
