NATO's Doors Remain Open: Stoltenberg on Zelensky's Application to Join NATO

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has commented on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's announcement regarding preparing an application for rapid accession to the alliance.

Stoltenberg acknowledged the alliance's unchanged position on each country's right to determine its own path and the "open door" policy. He emphasized that NATO will focus its efforts on assisting Kyiv with self-defense.

Earlier, Zelensky stated that Ukraine is submitting an accelerated application for NATO membership. "NATO's doors remain open. We have shown this in recent years... The decision on membership is made unanimously by all 30 allies. Our goal now is to provide urgent assistance to Ukraine, helping it defend against Russian invasion. That is the main issue for the alliance right now," Stoltenberg said while responding to reporters' questions in Brussels.
