US Senate Approves $12 Billion Aid for Ukraine

The US Senate has voted in favor of a temporary budget that includes $12 billion in aid for Ukraine. This was reported by the Russian service of the BBC.

It is noted that the vote took place at the last minute, financing federal government operations until December 16, including $12.3 billion in military and economic aid to Ukraine.

The US financial year ends on September 30, and if the budget is not approved by that date, the government would have to cease operations, a situation that has occurred multiple times in recent years (the last time was in 2018), as reported on the Telegram news channel.

It is reported that the budget still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives, but American media do not expect delays there.

The budget covers only the period until December 16, as lawmakers have not yet been able to draft a budget for a longer period. It provides for $12.3 billion in new military and economic aid for Ukraine and allows the Biden administration to transfer up to $3.7 billion in surplus weapons from reserves to Ukraine.

In the latest military aid packages, funds have often been allocated not for the supply of finished weapons and equipment but for orders to manufacturers, indicating that the Pentagon may no longer have surpluses of many types of weapons.

In particular, after transferring 16 units of HIMARS to Ukraine, the US military department allocated funds only for additional units of this system.
