Moscow Sees Attempts by Extraterritorial Players to Destabilize South Caucasus: Russian Foreign Ministry
Russia perceives the attempts of extraterritorial players to transfer the unstable situation from Ukraine to other parts of the post-Soviet space, particularly the South Caucasus, a region that has just begun to emerge from a prolonged crisis successfully. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during an online briefing.
According to her, such an initiative is highly destructive and dangerous. “Yes, we see that a number of extraterritorial players have sought to appropriate the laurels of peaceful resolution or peace agreements. We are not stingy; we are ready to share,” noted Zakharova.
Additionally, she pointed out that there is a tendency among the same extraterritorial players to impede the implementation of agreements reached in the fall of 2020 by “putting a stick between the wheels.” The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the full execution of the trilateral agreements is a guarantee of peace and stability in the region.
At the same time, she highlighted the importance of implementing the agreements in all three directions: the unblocking of communications, border delineation, and the preparation of a peace treaty.
“Our country continues to make vigorous efforts in communication with both Baku and Yerevan towards de-escalating the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Corresponding steps are also being taken through the CSTO,” noted the representative of Russia’s foreign policy agency.
She emphasized the necessity of ensuring a stable ceasefire regime and the withdrawal of all forces to their previous positions.
