‘It’s a Political Manipulation. They Cannot Be Compared.’ – China’s Foreign Ministry

The issue of Taiwan fundamentally differs from the Ukrainian crisis; they cannot be compared. This statement was made by Wang Wenbin, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China, during a press briefing. He was commenting on the referendums held in the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, which were incorporated into Russia. ‘Taiwan is an inseparable part of China’s territory. The Taiwan issue is an internal affair of China and fundamentally differs from the Ukrainian issue; they cannot be compared,’ the diplomat stated, responding to a journalist's question about whether China considers the established referendums as a false signal for the separatist forces advocating for Taiwan's independence.

Wang Wenbin emphasized that any attempt to compare the Ukrainian crisis and the Taiwan issue is ‘a political manipulation’ and constitutes ‘a gross intervention in China’s internal affairs.’ He also declared that China consistently supports the respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries and adheres to the fundamental goals and principles outlined in the UN Charter.
