Maps Not Yet Under Discussion: Armenia on Demarcation Process with Azerbaijan
Armenia and Azerbaijan have not yet engaged in discussions regarding maps that would serve as the basis for border demarcation. This information was shared with Sputnik Armenia by the press service of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
A corresponding inquiry was sent to the office of the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia at the end of August, which was subsequently forwarded to the ministry.
"At this moment, there are no discussions regarding the maps that are to serve as the basis for border delineation. At the same time, we consider it essential to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the documents that provide a legal basis for the title over the territory, relying on the fundamental principles of international law," the response from the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure stated.
The ministry also announced that the next meeting of the commission on border demarcation and border security issues will take place in Brussels in November 2022.
Earlier, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan urged the President of Azerbaijan to present a map recognizing the territory of Armenia. He pointed out that Azerbaijan is using the topics of signing a peace agreement with Armenia, delimiting borders, and unblocking regional communications for territorial claims against Armenia.
